Clinical Kendenup run down Australs

Kendenup have maintained touch with ladder-leaders Tambellup after an impressive performance against a stoic Australs in round 10 of the Great Southern Cricket Association on Saturday.

Australs opened the batting in blustery conditions at Kendenup Sports Ground and captain Phil Pink dug in with a hard-fought 69-ball knock that yielded 13 runs.

Kris Norris came out to bat at four and made 35 to stabilise the middle order but his side fell to 5-80 when he and Declan O’Neill were dismissed in quick succession.

Australs veteran David Potter helped the visitors bat out the 45 overs, pushing the underdogs to 6-127.

Kendenup began the chase well as opener Mitch Jackson blasted 53 off just 41 deliveries.

The game appeared all over until a wonderful spell from Norris who tore through Kendenup’s middle order.

Norris picked up five wickets, including back-to-back scalps of Tristan Ballard and Matthew Gilbert.

But Kendenup’s batting depth was too much for the visitors in the end and they reached the target with four wickets to spare in 19.2 overs.

Tambellup remain on top of the standings after a comfortable 92-run victory over Wanderers at Quartermaine Oval.

Batting first Tambellup posted a match-winning total thanks to a half century from Michael Long.

Long smashed an unbeaten 56 from 44 balls and was well supported by Jedd Herbert (34), Nathan Willmott (29) and Connor Hawkins (20) as their side made 7-196.

Ricky Marris tried his best to restrict the total with 4-23 off nine overs.

In reply Wanderers lost early wickets and never recovered as they were bowled out for 104.

Tyron Pinney top scored with 28 while Ryan Chapman (17) and Slade Green (16) chipped in.

Nathan Willmott and Daniel Willmott led the way with the ball for Tambellup, claiming 3-5 off six overs and 3-17 off eight overs respectively.

A brilliant all-round performance from Jack Batchelor against Frankland River helped Broomehill notch their third straight victory.

Frankland were bowled out for 121 batting first with Matt Della Gola (33) and Clinton Masters (28no) top scoring.

Batchelor was superb with the ball claiming 3-8 off seven overs before he starred with the bat, smashing 66no as his side finished on 3-122 in the 19th over.
