Freelance

YouTube Content Creator

I spend my free-time creating videos for my YouTube channel “Shannerz”.

Focused on the sport of cricket, I started out editing together highlights packages of my favourite players, but have sinced transitioned into video essay style videos that unearth hidden stories of the game.

Since I created the channel in 2014, it has gained over 15,000 subscribers on Youtube and 230,000 likes on TikTok.

Western Independent

While studying journalism at Curtin University, I wrote freelance pieces for the college’s newspaper, the Western Independent.

My last semester feature piece, titled “It Took a Pandemic to be Heard”, focussed on how Western Australia’s media coverage of COVID-19 brought about greater awareness of Deaf language and culture, thanks to the regular appearance of AUSLAN interpreters at press conferences.

This piece won the inaugural 2020 Curtin University Constructive Journalism award, and subsequently was published in The Junction newspaper because of it.

I have published a further eight articles with the Western Independent.

Netball WA

I assisted with the social media coverage of the West Coast Fever’s 2024 pre-season.

I photographed training sessions at Matthews Netball Centre for use on the Fever’s Instagram and Facebook pages. I also wrote press releases and articles for publication on Netball WA’s website.
